How I Customize My Head Extreme Tour

The love affair I’m having with my Extreme Tour continues. First I’ll go through some trialed specs and explain their failures, before revealing my current playing spec. Some reading if you’d like to know why I love this racquet so much, as well as my review on the frame.

Initial Attempt

The initial review I published for Courtside Sports included a customized setup for a the prototype version of the Extreme Tour. I only added weight at 12 o’clock until the swingweight reach 336, strung, with the stock replacement grip. t. It would be roughly a year before I would finally switch to the Extreme Tour.

First Setup

When I first bought these racquets in 2021, I slapped 12g at 12 o’clock and wrapped 5g in the handle from the 7 inch mark. This thing delivered absolute bombs of both the forehand and backhand. The stability was immense and I never felt like big hitters could push me around. I was playing a lot on clay at this time, so having a lot of extra power was very helpful when hitting balls from deep in the court.

Mild Discomfort and Adjustments to Feel

Usually I am the type to add leather grips to my racquets, but the Extreme Tour is just comfortable enough to where I was worried the leather wouldn’t provide enough cushioning on for my wrist. In fact, on weeks where I was playing 3 or more times a week, I was experiencing wrist fatigue. Enter VT Advantec. They were gracious enough to send me some strips and grips to test, without any pressure.

I experimented with the strips and grips and settled on a 2 strip setup (3 and 9) and the leather grip.

To compensate for the added weight from the leather, I removed the weight in the handle.

I am a Weakling

Over Summer 2021, I struggled to win matches a even sets. This was due to inconsistencies in my serve, caused my a weak upper body and a racquet that was too heavy.

I removed 3g from 12 o’clock, which really helped my shoulder feel strong over the course of a full set.

Annoyance with VT Advantec

I began training pretty intensely with a close friend of mine in the Fall. I felt like I really needed to be in tune with my setup, so I removed the VT Advantec strips at 3 and 9. This helped my diagnose off-centre hits better, as responsiveness returned to the stringbed. With the leather grip installed, have not had any comfort issues to date.
